Who can have HIFU?

Assessment for suitability for HIFU is performed on an individual basis, but it is most suitable for patients with non-metastatic, non-aggressive disease who fulfil the following criteria:

• Prostate size < 40cc
• PSA < 15
• Gleason < 7 (this is a measure of the aggression of the disease)
• No evidence of metastatic disease (i.e. disease that has spread beyond the prostate)

You may be aware of these details. If you have had prostate biopsy before, your urologist should be able to inform you of some of them. If not, we can arrange the relevant tests for you.
